Design Basics for Today’s Modern Kitchen

Today’s modern kitchen no matter the “style” must be highly functional, extremely efficient and serve as a multi-functional living space for every homeowner.

Aesthetically speaking however, when we isolate the design details and components of the modern kitchen we see crisp clean lines with an emphasis on the horizontal where frameless flat paneled doors or painted shaker style doors are often featured. The layering of natural wood varieties, the texture and patterned mix of metals, glass and stones is where the modern character radiates its warmth throughout the kitchen.

Siematic Kitchens
Sleek stainless appliances, custom hood and cabinetry are nestled into an elongated cooking niche along the back wall of this Seimatic kitchen. Sliding stone panels conceal the recessed shelving that flanks the cook top. Here we see a monochromatic color palette, where the countertop materials and cabinet colors are similar in tone creating a sleek architectural design aesthetic.

A small kitchen doesn’t need to be boring. Custom black and white cabinets, sleek stainless shelves, an articulating industrial faucet and a red-hot range add sexy drama to this modern kitchen. Integrating the appliances into the design provides a more monochromatic and uninterrupted line that ultimately creates the illusion of space. Design: Lori Gilder

I love the warmth and coziness of the cedar clad walls and ceilings that envelop this modern kitchen. The sleek suspended track and cable lighting system highlights the quartz countertop surfaces. With an emphasis on the horizontal, the great room layout is beautifully designed to accommodate the kitchen, dining and living space.
